La Niña effect has brought about so much rain that has made the ground saturated and has caused so many losses physical, emotional and economical, and is not yet over. The aquifers have been replenished and our water tanks have been filled and then some. The outlook for primary producers may be favorable especially in areas that had had a prolonged drought. How pure is rainwater?

With the recent and current heavy rain we are having, I was curious, what is the level of bacteria load rainwater carried? To that end, a sterile stainless-steel bowl was placed outside, during the heaviest of rain and the water was collected, and tested immediately for bacteria load. Temperature and pH was measured at 19.6C and a pH of 5.12, the LSI was measured at -3.67 which makes this water extremely corrosive. The bacteria test results were surprising, although it is known that the water cycle carries bacteria, but had never tested to determine the levels and type of bacteria.....read more....
